Complaint Details
I was looking on Facebook for a car, and I came across a 2004 Honda Accord LX, gold, four-door, under 70,000 miles. It was located in Waukesha, WI, but the seller told me they had the car in Augusta, ME. I emailed them about the car after messaging & getting a message saying they were selling it for their mother and, to email her. She said her name was Teresa Lindsey, and explained she moved to Maine with her daughter since she had surgery. She said her husband had passed away and, that's why she was selling the car for $1300.00. EBay Motors sent me an invoice for the car, how much it cost, information about the car, everything. I was instructed to buy my payment for the car in eBay gift cards. I went to Target that night and bought $1300.00 in eBay gift cards. I called the next day, and made my payments over the phone as they asked. Later that day, they said the seller got insurance on the car for $1300.00 (same amount as the car). They asked for an extra $650.00 as half the payment of the insurance, and that it would get refunded back to me once the car was delivered. I made the decision to end the deal about the car. I emailed the seller, and eBay Motors, and heard nothing back from either e-mail. I also called eBay Motors, and the number rang once, and hung up. I called eBay Customer Service for them to do nothing except "document it", as they said, and to tell me that they couldn't do anything about it. They also told me to call my local police station. I went, and made a report to them, and they told me I was basically screwed since all the information was phony. I'm now completely screwed out of $1300.00 because of them.
